Hainan University

The project involves the design and construction of a classical Spanish style university with Mudejar influences, integrating traditional elements of Iberian architecture with modern and sustainable functionality. The university will be a symbol of cultural exchange, highlighting the rich Spanish heritage while adapting to the tropical environment and academic dynamism of Hainan.

The campus will occupy a 40-hectare site, distributed in specific areas that promote functionality, cultural integration and harmony with the natural environment:

Academic Buildings:

Classrooms and auditoriums distributed in blocks connected by interior courtyards with horseshoe arches and ornamental tiles.
Red brick facades decorated with geometric ceramics and tiled roofs in terracotta tones.
Central Library:

Inspired by ancient Spanish mosques and palaces, with a large central dome and arabesque decoration.
Spacious and bright spaces that combine traditional aesthetics with modern technology.
Central Plaza:

A large plaza surrounded by galleries with columns and multi-lobed arches, designed as a space for events and social activities.
Ornamental fountain as a focal point, inspired by the courtyards of the Alhambra.
Student and Teachers Residences:

Designed with internal courtyards, vertical gardens, and sustainable materials that respect the Mudejar aesthetic.
Incorporation of common areas such as lounges, study areas, and recreation spaces.
Green Zones and Sports Areas:

Extensive gardens designed with geometric patterns and paths shaded by pergolas and palm trees.
Sports fields and a stadium integrated into the landscape, surrounded by local vegetation.
Cultural and Exchange Center:

Space dedicated to the promotion of Spanish and Chinese culture, with classrooms for workshops, exhibitions, and an auditorium for international events.

Key Elements of Mudejar Design:

Decorative Arches and Columns: Elements that symbolize the Arab and Spanish influence, harmonizing with the tropical environment of Hainan.
Tiles and Ceramics: Extensive use of geometric patterns and vivid colors on floors, walls, and fountains.
Tiled Roofs and Towers: Iconic architectural details of the Mudejar style, integrated into functional architecture.
Gardens with Fountains: Open areas evoking Andalusian patios, adapted to the island's climate.

Sustainability and Adaptation to the Environment

The design prioritizes sustainable practices:

Renewable Energy: Installation of solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems.
Natural Ventilation: Use of open courtyards, pergolas, and corridors to improve air circulation.
Local Materials: Incorporation of indigenous elements to reduce the ecological footprint.
